Maurizio Sarri remains the ‘favourite’ for the Juventus job with the Italian champions plotting move for the Chelsea boss after the Europa League final. Sarri is currently preparing his players to take on Arsenal in Baku on May 29 but his future at Stamford Bridge remains unclear, despite the potential to finish with a major trophy and a top three finish in the Premier League. Juventus are also interested in Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino but that is seen as a far tougher deal to strike given he has three years left on his deal in north London. The former Napoli boss was on Friday’s front page for La Gazzetta dello Sport with the Italian newspaper reporting Sarri held a ‘top-secret face to face meeting’ with the Juventus chief Fabio Paratici. Paratici’s trip to London also saw him reportedly meet with the brother of Pochettino, who represents the Argentine coach, with the Italians keen to find a swift replacement for the departing Allegri. Sarri is attractive to Juventus for his commitment to player development and his style of play and he appears to be an attainable candidate given his difficult relationship with supporters at Chelsea. Another reason the club are on a ‘mission’ to land Sarri as Allegri’s successor is that there is a sense he can bring out the best form in striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to Corriere dello Sport. The pair worked together at Napoli and were a raging success but the Argentine striker, on loan at Chelsea from Juventus, has struggled to make an impression in the Premier League. At a press conference on Wednesday, Sarri parried away any questions about the Juventus vacancy and insisted all his focus was on the upcoming Europa League final. ‘If the situation is like this I want to go immediately,’ said Sarri, when asked if he is still at risk of the sack from Chelsea. ‘You cannot do 10 months of work and then I have to play for everything in 90 minutes. It’s not the right way. You’re either happy about my work or you’re not happy.‘I have a two-year contract here and I have no contact with other clubs at the moment. I have to speak to my club first of all after the final.I want to know if they are happy with me or not. ‘I am very happy to stay in the Premier League and I think Chelsea is one of the most important clubs in the Premier League. So I’m really very happy but we have to discuss the situation.’ Juventus president Andrea Agnelli wants a proven winner and harbours concerns that Sarri has yet to win a major trophy as a manager – something he can change in Baku next week.
